Stop the steal? I say stop the stupid.
“Stop the steal” was one of the chants during The Orange Insurrection on January 6th 2021 when hundreds (thousands) of people stormed our capital. Another was “hang Mike Pence!”
They were carrying Trump flags, Confederate flags, white supremacist flags and American flags. There are videos of the rioters beating Capital Police officers with an American flag!
These insurrectionists were instigated by Donald Trump. For the first time in our country’s history we were having a violent transfer of power. The ex-president brought a stain of shame to America in his desperate, ego-based attempt to cling to power.
Approximately 70 courts, with Republican judges, threw out Trump’s claims that the 2020 election was stolen for lack of evidence. Bill Barr, Trump’s own Attorney General, declared there was no evidence of a “rigged election” as Trump claimed.
There is NO EVIDENCE that Trump is telling the truth when he says the election was stolen from him. In a desperate attempt to come up with evidence to support Trump’s claims, the Republican party has hired Ciber Ninjas to recount the ballots in Maricopa County in Arizona.
The “Ninja” group is EXTREMELY right-wing partisan. It’s leader is associated with QAnon, conspiracy theories regarding dead dictators, debunked tech theories and Trumps lawyers. The workers have been vetted to be partisan Republicans and very little oversight is allowed by neutral observers. One of the ballot recount workers was even on the ballot. He lost.
Is this fair and transparent? Is this how we get to the truth? It’s like letting OAC get a group together to recount the ballots in a county that Trump won narrowly. That is if she screened the workers to be ONLY extreme left-wing Democrats and they did the work in secret. I wouldn’t trust that either.
If you have evidence of election rigging in the 2020 election by all means present it. Otherwise, stop saying the election was rigged. It destroys American’s faith in our elections. The very foundation of our democracy. Putin has been promoting this “rigged election” theory for years to try to make America look bad to his people. (gee… I wonder if it’s a coincidence that Trump and Putin say the same thing!?!?)
Prior to the 2016 election Trump also claimed the election would be rigged and that he would not accept the results. When he won the election via the Electoral College, he appointed a committee to prove that he also won the popular vote. They found NO EVIDENCE that he was cheated in any significant way. The committee was dissolved. By the way, we the taxpayers paid for this stroking of Trump’s ego.
Now, the Republican Party is falling in line behind the ex-president as he continues his “Big Lie”. Though many of the conservative lawmakers were shocked on Jan 6th and disavowed Trump, they are now bowing to him. Only a few Republican leaders say the truth – and they are being punished for it.
A party that can’t tell the truth is surely dead. They don’t know it yet. They are like zombies – still walking and doing damage – but history and The People will realize that the Republican Party is unable to face reality. Surely dealing with reality is a requirement for a bright future.
Can the Republican Party be born again? Only time will tell, but I think they have to face the truth to do it. They have to “stop the stupid”.
